 COURSE:       MU1023                      Wind Ensemble

 TEACHER:    Mr. Kennedy   Rm. 133 (Band Room)

 CLASS MATERIALS: Materials for this class will be provided by the band program, with the exception of a lyre and flip folder for marching season. Though most students own their own instrument, there are some instruments that the school system provides, primarily large costly instruments such as the tuba or the baritone saxophone, etc…

 DESCRIPTION: This performing ensemble is for the advanced high school instrumentalist and focuses on historically significant classic, contemporary and original compositions for winds. The further development of fine musical skills in concert witht the study of historical elements of the music is emphasized.

 This course will include the following:


  • Many performance opportunities
  • Sight reading of new music at an advanced level and the development of band arrangements for performance purposes
  • Written evaluations of our own performances
  • Opportunity to pursue involvement in the Western Mass. District band
  • Opportunities to travel and perform in festivals throughout the Eastern United States
  • Development of personal musical skills
  • Development of ensemble skills
  • Solo opportunities for the advanced instrumentalist are possible


GRADING:    60%     Class participation, citizenship and behavior (see rubric)

 30%     Performances (see rubric)

 10%     Written assignments (see rubric)
